Chapter 4: The City
Everyone under four hundred must seem like a fresh, youthful child when you are over a thousand years old. Gabriel is not that old as time is measured in his or Maximilien’s world, but he might feel that way about everyone around him. He has seen many changes, and he has also seen that many things remain the same. He continues living as his father and grandfather lived before him. He has felt no need to keep up with the technological innovations, the fashion trends, or what he regards as the absolutely useless gossip about celebrities in any form that they might take, whether as a politician, a singer, or an actor.
