Chapter 3: Transport
The two men sit at the front of a cart that is pulled by something resembling an ox. The animal is large and muscular and has big horns. As with everything else in this place, it is very colorful. In the cart are stacked crates filled with many kinds of vegetables.
Maximilien has never been an outdoors type of person. He can run a marathon, so he has athletic ability, but he never liked going camping, hunting, fishing, or anything where he had to be away from a city for more than a day. He cannot see himself without the comforts and convenience of a city for very long. A rustic existence or lifestyle is beyond his comprehension. He cannot adjust. His mind longs for the things he has been acculturated to as essential to his daily life.
